MTU Circle K History
The following was written by Matt to commemorate our 15th annniversary last year.
Our club was first chartered on December 12th, 1990. Since then the club has grown and received much attention. The club is not the largest or oldest club in the district, but we continually have membership in the mid 20's in which a great majority are dedicated members.
MTU Circle K has been noted for its commitment to service by receiving many awards, from both the district and the University. Besides service we also have received the Club Spirit Award at District Convention for three years running. The MTU Circle K has also recently been the club to beat when it comes to the district wide can tabs competition. Our club never seems to leave District Convention with empty hands. Last year we received nine awards! Participation (1st), Bulletin/Newsletter (1st-Jen), Fundraiser (1st-Nikki), Essay (1st-Jen), Spirit (1st-third year running 2003-2004-2005), Trivia (1st), Caucus Theme (1st), Scrap book (2nd- Amy), Talent show (2nd)
Our members have always stepped forward to serve and have fun. A select few members went on to hold higher positions. Darrick Hartman served as Lt. Governor from 94 to 96 and was also District Bulletin Editor in 95-96. A year later Sean Havera served as Lt. Governor in 97-98, then as Governor in 98-99. Finally, he served on the Circle K International Board in 99-2000, when he proposed to his wife at the International Convention. He currently is the Michigan District Administrator. Today, we continue this tradition, as we all know Sarah McDowell is the current Superior Division Lt. Governor.
